Chair of SFHHI (Strathaven Friends of HHI)/Trustee/Committee Member

I was a fellow Scout of Ron Prosser (our founder) in his home town of Strathaven and met up with him again in 2007 after about forty years when I first heard from him about Health Help International.

His enthusiasm for his charity was such as to encourage me to make a trip to India with him to witness the work of HHI in Kerala. I duly made the trip though unfortunately Ron was not able to go and that was when I first came to know Edmund Plummer. As a result of a further nine visits to India with Edmund I was invited by him to become a trustee of the charity, an invitation I was delighted to accept.

I had prior to that been able to organise two visits by Strathaven Explorer Scouts to Zambia to undertake various works for HHI in and around Monze.

In Strathaven I head the enthusiastic and dedicated committee members of the Strathaven Friends of HHI, a subcommittee of HHI, and with around 100 supporters of the charity locally and further afield in Scotland we raise regular funds on its behalf.

I retired in 2002 following a career in Civil Engineering, having been involved in major construction projects throughout the UK. I consider the years since then the best of my life. Becoming involved with HHI has been a great blessing and in addition to my work on its behalf and with my Church (one attended by Ron Prosser in his youth) and other community commitments I have been able to continue two of my other main interests, hill climbing and the Scout Movement, my involvement with the latter now having lasted over 75 years.
