The Round Strathaven 50

Health Help International has benefitted in recent years from generous donations from the annual Round Strathaven 50 charity cycle event. These have amounted to date to £47,000.
This year’s RS50 was held on Sunday 21st August and was one of its most successful. Nearly 600 cyclists, of all ages from five to over eighty, took part and over £10,000 was raised from their entry fees of £22 and some generous donations from a number of them.
Iain Park, a Trustee of HHI, founded the event which was first held in 2002, organised then by the Friends of Strathaven Scouts of which Ron Prosser the founder of HHI was a member.
The RS50 committee is supported on the day by other local organisations and a large number of individuals who help to control the event and act as marshals or help at the two refreshment stops. The sausage rolls and home baking at these generously provided by other supporters has led to the RS50 becoming known as the Good Food Run.
Half of the proceeds go each year to the Strathaven Scouts and Guides and the other half to selected Charities. HHI has been the main benefactor for quite a number of years and the monies received have helped towards the successful completion of various projects in both India and Zambia.
