Day 9 January 28th 2023

Things are starting to wind down a bit as the end of the visit approaches, but there are still a lot of things going on.

First port of call was to inspect a plot of land which is for sale and which would be suitable for a purpose built building for Happy Valley. It’s a former banana plantation but reasonably level. Philip thinks that we could get it for £40,000. Any takers?

Then it was back to visiting sick people, old and new. We have helped Sarath in the past, but he has now developed fistula problems which will require treatment in Hyderabad, two days’ train journey away. We gave him £100 towards the cost of travel and accommodation there, as well as any other incidental expenses.

Another old friend is Radha, who was looking a lot better despite having declined a recommended operation. “My only medicine is prayer” she told us. We gave her some money to buy a chicken coop and ten month old chickens. This will enable her to be much more self supporting in future, as well as giving her a healthier diet.

And a new friend is Shadada who is immobile after a brain tumor, and is suffering from bed sores as a result. The sores respond well to an ointment which is available but is expensive by Indian standards, so we paid for three tubes and promised three tubes a month until the sores are healed.

There was also a visit to the accountant to see how a tax appeal was progressing (no progress), a bit of shopping and a couple of social calls.
