Final day January 29th 2023
Today has been quieter. But there has been a succession of people visiting. Some come for their regular contribution towards long term medicines, some for one-off help with medical costs, some for both.
Sheeja’s husband came for her monthly help with the cost of immunosuppressive drugs to ensure that her donated kidney continues to be accepted by her body.
Indukela has had a mastectomy and is undergoing radiation treatment to stop the cancer from spreading. Whilst the basic treatment is free, there are a lot of incidental expenses that have to be paid for. Her husband is a sewing machine repairman, but there is not a lot of work and the family is poor and struggles to make ends meet. A contribution of £80 will make all the difference.

We have helped Baby with her mouth cancer, and she has now fallen and broken her leg badly. It needs to be pinned; the operation is free but the pins (iron rod in Indian parlance) have to be paid for. She also needs help to get to the district hospital for her weekly chemotherapy sessions. I was able to pay most of the cost of the pins as well as promising help with the cost of an autorickshaw for the rest of her chemotherapy course.
All in all, a very happy visit. It’s always good to be back in India and to see everything that our supporters enable us to do. A little goes a long way in India.
