Following the warm and welcoming ‘Meet and Greet’ in the Prayer hut with the HHZ staff, Jute and Kath set off on their busy day!

First stop …

Monze Mission Hospital, MMH.  The stoma/colostomy supplies that have been donated by hospitals, healthcare workers and individuals in the UK are desperately needed by MMH and as soon as they arrive in Zambia, Dr Katongo Mulenga will ensure they are swiftly transported to the hospital. Dr Mulenga was delighted to receive the items Jute and Kath carried with them to Zambia. Also, Physio straps were given to Samatha, one of the physiotherapists in MMH.

In the Children’s ward, James, the head nutrition nurse and Trinity, also a nutrition nurse, were showing the mothers how to cook traditional foods in order to maximize the nutritional value of the ingredients. The monthly donation to the hospital of £60 by HHI is used for children with burns who need an increased protein diet to assist with healing, as well as for providing milk supplements for babies whose mothers can’t supply enough breast milk. Small toys were also given to the young patients in the burns unit and the malnutrition ward, much to the delight of the children – and their mothers!

In the HHZ sewing dept Alistair was pleased to accept the cottons, ribbons, scissors, elastic etc, items unwanted in UK but in great demand in Zambia, and particularly thrilled to receive the new underwear donated by the ladies in Lindfield URC church for the Menstrual Health Project which has made a huge impact on school attendance for girls.

And Robbie was delighted with the large bag of ferrules which, according to Jute, ‘weighed a ton!’ Be assured, ferrule work is already underway. The grass doesn’t grow under the talented Robbie’s feet!
