DAY 7 Sunday 17th September 2023

WIN WIN at Muumba

A follow up visit to Muumba School was made as Mr Bbilika, the head teacher, has asked if HHI can help with providing some shade for the 400+ pupils. As you can see from the picture, the school grounds do not have any shade and when food is served the pupils have nowhere to sit out of the sun. They could go back into the classrooms, but lessons and mealtimes are rotated so not everyone eats at the same time.

After some thought, it was suggested that Mango trees could be planted. They are quite quick growing, and they provide leafy green shade and edible fruits. Mr Bbilika is very keen to go ahead with this plan, and the students will help to plant the trees once they have been purchased. The head teacher from Nanga school, Mr Bweupe, has offered to help Muumba in this venture.  The pupils will, at the same time, learn about the positive impact tree planting will have on the environment and about the value of eating nutritional fruits. It’s a win win!
