Choongo Challenge
A BIG THANK YOU!!
As we came to the end of our Silver Anniversary, we looked back with a huge sense of gratitude and pride in what HHI has achieved. Furthermore, nearly all the funds raised have come from you, our incredible supporters.
The Choongo Challenge to raise £25,000 to build a much needed second dormitory at Choongo school seemed, as named, a challenge at the beginning of January 2024.
However, amazingly in October that year we witnessed the opening ceremony of the dormitory for the residential disabled children. The children who now each enjoy a bed send their heartfelt thank you to everyone who bought bricks, sent a donation or attended any of the fundraising events held to enable the completion of this life-changing resource for the children.

HHI is 25 years young this year, and to celebrate we are launching the Choongo Challenge – to raise £25,000 to provide a second dormitory block to relieve the chronic overcrowding that disabled children, who live far away from the special needs unit at Choongo School and have to board there, face. The present block is shared by both boys and girls, and is so crowded that children are having to share beds. They describe their plight here. (https://hhi.org.uk/choongo-school-needs-help/ ).
We have made a good start – our team in Strathaven have said that the £6,000 raised on their behalf by the Round Strathaven 50 cycle event can be used for this. So only £19,000 to go! Can you help? If so, please give here (https://square.link/u/9ig1ttCL) or send us a cheque or bank transfer. We will require 7,000 bricks, so £4 will enable us to buy the equivalent of one brick, £20 six bricks, £50 for a door, £200 for the plumbing, £600 for the electrics, £1,000 for the foundations or £3000 for the roof.
With your continuing contributions we may even have some extra funds for fittings and to purchase necessary beds and mattresses!
Go on – be a brick!
