DAY 9 – 15th JANUARY 2026

SMALL HELPS THAT MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE (Part 2)

Last night we tried to return Tom to Trppaadam only to find the place all locked up with no one to answer. Those pious souls were all tucked up in bed asleep by 10pm! So, he dossed on Philip’s floor and was too tired to come out with us.

In the meanwhile, Philip and I went to see some needy people – and the ‘not so needy’ ones still hoping for a handout. One of the difficulties of this job is telling the difference between the two groups of people.

A person certainly in need our help is Mercy who is recovering from surgery from a brain tumour. She and her husband cannot afford to rent even a room but sleep in the back of their church. We would like to help them with the on-going cost of their medication.

We would also like to support Seelas, who suffered a stroke last year, leaving him bedridden, incontinent and confused. He has no wife, leaving his daughter, herself a cancer survivor, distraught and unable to cope with the costs involved.

On a lighter note, we finished the day with a visit to CDSA where a dozen women were being trained in bamboo reed working skills, and twenty-four children were enjoying extra tuition to help them with their school studies. Our visit was an excuse for a new year cake. Well, it is still January!
