Sunday Service with a difference in Monze
This morning’s Sunday Service was not the traditional service we are used to in the UK. We were encouraged to sing ten hymns including several choruses in Tonga, we listened to three different ‘pastors’ preaching on different Bible verses, accompanied by translations into Tonga, and we were entertained with action songs all praising God. The whole hour and half programme was delivered by the young people of Monze Mission Brethren Church. There are 33 of them!! The ‘pastor’ holding it all together was Bwupe Fundi (top left) age 12. He is the son of Pastor Fundi. We as UK visitors were warmly welcomed and following the service, we all shared a meal together in the church sanctuary which was also prepared by the young people. It has been a long time since we worshipped with this congregation because of the covid years. However, some of the members remembered us from our previous visits and welcomed us as long-lost friends. It was a real joy to chat with the young people who wanted to know all about the UK, the Queen, whether we have a president and what we eat for school meals. They explained a few things to me too namely that Zambia has 72 languages and I now know what ‘monkey bread’ is and what it tastes like!
