Hunger! Help!
We are all too aware that when there is drought in Zambia, it hits hard. Jonah Sialumano, our Disabilities Affairs Manager at HHZ recently wrote to us….
‘Here it has been worse than before where hunger is concerned because here in Southern province, we didn’t have enough rains. This resulted in a dry spell leading to farmers in the villages having their crops completely dry. Hunger is looming in Monze District and the entire Southern Province, especially in rural areas. With the increase of hunger, the number of people coming to HHZ to seek help through the Charity Office has increased. It has been a busy moment.’
We understand that the World Food Programme is able to help with supplies of food, money or school meals. At the moment, HHZ is using some of the monthly ‘helps’ money to provide food for the most needy, including disabled, vulnerable and disadvantaged children in two schools that we work with and the malnutition ward of Monze Mission Hospital.
HHZ has also stated that with more resources at hand, they could undoubtedly do more to help. Can you help?
